Make or decline one private balcony-herb note for a chosen recipient
This supervised lesson uses a supplied balcony-herb packet to teach a small personal legacy artifact. The creator may decline, choose a niece as the sole reader, turn three gardening observations into a 100–150 word note, remove an unconsented relative joke, approve or reject a photograph, offer the niece accept/defer/decline choices, and set a six-month private release date plus correction or deletion instructions. It is not therapy, inheritance planning or cultural knowledge transfer.

What you need
- Qualified facilitator and the exact optional prompt: ‘What three things did I learn from growing herbs in a small space that I want niece Lea to know?’
- Supplied fictional source cards: H1, basil did well on a south-facing sill; H2, water was added when the top two centimetres of compost felt dry rather than on a calendar; H3, mint crowded basil when both shared a pot. Card X says ‘Uncle Arun always forgets plants’ and must be excluded because Arun gave no permission.
- A one-page 100–150 word note template, optional basil-photo card, Lea response card with accept/defer/decline, word counter, private-file label, six-month release card and correction/deletion instruction box.
Before you start

Follow these steps in order

The facilitator reads the herb-note prompt once, names the 15-minute draft limit and asks whether the creator wants proceed, pause or decline without giving a reason.

- Choose photograph separately
Ask whether the supplied basil image may accompany the note; if yes, check it contains no faces, address, location metadata or unrelated objects.

- Give Lea three choices

4 · Worked example
See the whole method used once
Scenario
With a trained facilitator, an adult chooses to make a one-page note for a niece about growing herbs on a balcony; no end-of-life, legal or cultural material is involved.
Walkthrough
- The adult chooses writing and a private file, locks the purpose to H1–H3 for Lea and rejects public advice, audio and family-history uses.
- They order basil light, soil dryness and separate mint pots, then strike the supplied Arun joke and record why it is excluded.
- The finished 117-word note reads: ‘Lea, three small-space herb lessons stayed with me. First, basil grew best for me on a south-facing sill, where it received steady light. Second, I did not water by calendar. I pressed a finger into the compost and watered only when the top two centimetres felt dry. Third, mint crowded the basil when I put both in one pot, so I later gave mint its own container. These are observations from one balcony, not rules for every home or plant. I hope they help you notice what your own herbs need. You may keep this note, wait to read it, or ask for it to be deleted; none of those choices changes what you mean to me.’ The creator approves the non-identifying basil image and marks a six-month release date.

Result
The artifact has bounded purpose, separate consent and custody. Its existence does not measure purpose, worth, therapy benefit or recipient outcome.

7 · Practice
Turn the steps into a usable skill
First session
- Use the exact herb prompt and record proceed, pause or decline before opening the source cards.
- Lock Lea as sole reader, order H1–H3 and remove card X before drafting.
- Write 100–150 words, count them and decide on the basil photograph separately.
- Complete Lea’s accept/defer/decline card plus the private six-month release label.
- Score pressure, fatigue and usefulness, then keep private, revise, pause or delete.
Repeat plan
The facilitator sets cadence and limits. Work in short optional sessions with consent renewed each time; do not add topics, audiences or uses without a fresh authority and consent review.

Measure what changed
Accuracy, privacy and recipient choice in the balcony-herb note
How: Check H1–H3 coverage, 100–150 word count, absence of card X, separate photo choice, Lea’s three response options, six-month date and creator pressure/fatigue/usefulness ratings.
Good result: All three observations appear accurately, Arun is absent, the word limit passes and both creator and Lea retain a practical no-or-delete choice.
