Appendix R: Common Mistakes & How to Avoid Them
Module-by-Module Pitfalls
PROGRAM A: FOUNDATION RESET
Mistake 1: Starting Too Aggressive
• Trying to fix everything at once
• Setting wake time 2 hours earlier than current
• Eliminating all “bad” foods immediately
Solution: Change one thing at a time. Gradual shifts are sustainable.
Mistake 2: Perfectionism
• “I already checked my phone, day is ruined”
• Missing one day and giving up
• All-or-nothing thinking
Possible response: reduce the task, resume when useful or redesign the cue. “Never miss twice” is not a rule.
Mistake 3: Not Actually Tracking
• Thinking you’ll remember
• Tracking in your head
• Inconsistent tracking
Possible response: use one simple system long enough to evaluate it, but vary the timing or retire it if daily tracking increases burden or is not used.
Mistake 4: Ignoring Social Environment
• Partner sabotages sleep schedule
• Friends pressure you to stay out late
• Family doesn’t respect boundaries
Solution: Communicate clearly. Get buy-in. Find supportive people.
PROGRAM B: HARDWARE OPTIMIZATION
Mistake 1: Ego Lifting
• Too heavy, bad form
• Chasing numbers over technique
• Ignoring pain signals
Possible response: reduce load, use appropriate coaching and prioritise controlled technique and symptoms. Recording is optional and requires privacy and consent.
Mistake 2: Program Hopping
• New program every 2 weeks
• Chasing novelty
• No progressive overload tracking
Solution: Commit to one program for 8-12 weeks minimum.
Mistake 3: Neglecting Recovery
• Training 7 days/week
• Not sleeping enough
• Ignoring deload needs
Solution: Recovery is when you get stronger. Schedule rest.
Mistake 4: Cardio Avoidance (or Overemphasis)
• Skipping all cardio for gains
• Or only doing cardio, no strength
Solution: You need both. Balance based on goals.
Mistake 5: Undereating While Training Hard
• Caloric deficit too aggressive
• Insufficient protein
• Wondering why no progress
Solution: Fuel training appropriately. Prioritize protein.
PROGRAM C: OPERATING SYSTEM UPGRADE
Temperature boundary
• Program C contains no cold or heat progression
• Never combine water with hyperventilation or breath holds
• Use the stop-and-route boundary in section 5.1
Mistake 2: Breathwork Without Supervision
• Wim Hof in water (DANGEROUS)
• Extreme hyperventilation
• Ignoring warning signs
Solution: Titan prescribes neither hyperventilation nor breath-hold progression. Never practise either in water, near hazards or where loss of consciousness could cause injury.
Mistake 3: Expecting Immediate Sleep Results
• Changing everything overnight
• Frustrated after 3 days
• Adding more supplements instead of fixing basics
Solution: Sleep optimization takes weeks. Basics before supplements.
Mistake 4: Stress Inoculation Becoming Chronic Stress
• Too much cold, too often
• No recovery between stressors
• Addicted to intensity
Solution: Stress + Recovery = Growth. Chronic stress = breakdown.
PROGRAM D: COGNITIVE ENHANCEMENT
Mistake 1: Deep Work Without Boundaries
• Phone in room “for emergencies”
• Email tab open “just in case”
• Thinking willpower is enough
Solution: Environment design beats willpower. Remove temptations.
Mistake 2: Creating Too Many Flashcards
• Adding 100 cards/day
• Review backlog grows overwhelming
• Abandoning system
Solution: 10-20 new cards/day max. Quality over quantity.
Mistake 3: Passive Learning
• Watching lectures passively
• Highlighting without testing yourself
• Consuming without producing
Solution: Active recall, testing, teaching. Learning is active.
Mistake 4: Nootropic Dependency
• Skipping basics, loading supplements
• Can’t focus without caffeine
• Stack creep (adding more and more)
Solution: Basics first. Sleep and exercise beat any pill.
PROGRAM E: EMOTIONAL MASTERY
Mistake 1: Suppression Instead of Regulation
• “I just won’t feel it”
• Stuffing emotions down
• Thinking regulation = elimination
Solution: Feel the emotion, choose your response. Not the same as suppression.
Mistake 2: Over-Analysis
• Analyzing every feeling
• Paralyzed by self-examination
• Turning practice into rumination
Solution: Observe, name, choose. Light touch, not heavy analysis.
Mistake 3: Expecting Quick Results
• “I’ve practiced for a week, still reactive”
• Giving up when progress isn’t linear
Solution: Emotional patterns built over years. Change takes time.
PROGRAM F: FINANCIAL ACCELERATION
Mistake 1: All Investment, No Emergency Fund
• Investing before having cash buffer
• Forced to sell investments at bad time
Solution: Emergency fund (1-3 months) before investing.
Mistake 2: Lifestyle Inflation
• Raise comes, spending increases equally
• Never actually building wealth
Solution: Save the raise. Increase savings rate with income.
Mistake 3: Analysis Paralysis on Investments
• Waiting for “perfect” strategy
• Researching for months without action
• Missing compound time
Solution: Start simple (index funds). Perfect is enemy of good.
Mistake 4: Ignoring Psychology
• Thinking finance is just math
• Not addressing emotional money patterns
• Sabotaging own success
Solution: Psychology is 80% of financial success. Do the inner work.
PROGRAM G: COMBAT SPORT & CONDITIONING
Mistake 1: Training Without Instruction
• YouTube videos only
• No partner practice
• No pressure testing
Solution: Find qualified instruction. Skills need stress testing.
Mistake 2: Aggression Without Control
• Training anger, not capability
• No off switch
• Legal/ethical blindness
Solution: Combat-sport training is about control, not rage.
Mistake 3: Overconfidence
• Little training, much confidence
• Underestimating opponents
• Seeking confrontation
Solution: True confidence comes from humility and preparation.
PROGRAMS H-L: GENERAL PATTERNS
Mistake: Skipping Prerequisites
• Jumping to advanced modules
• Building on weak foundations
• Wonder why nothing sticks
Solution: Follow the sequence. Foundation first.
Mistake: Not Personalizing
• Following protocols robotically
• Not adapting to your life
• Treating this as one-size-fits-all
Solution: These are frameworks. Adapt to your context.
Mistake: Going It Alone
• No accountability
• No community
• Isolation
Solution: Find your people. Share the journey.
Mistake: Forgetting the Long Game
• Expecting transformation in weeks
• Frustrated by slow progress
• Giving up too early
Solution: This is a lifetime practice. Trust the process.
