Perform one provider-selected robotic-assistance task with load limits, an exclusion zone and device-off comparison
A trained team evaluates a back-support device through an unloaded rehearsal and one empty-crate move between waist-high benches. The learner respects the exclusion zone, turns with the feet, identifies an assistance-timing mismatch and demonstrates stop and safe removal. This cannot establish greater strength, injury prevention or workplace readiness.

Scenario
A back-support exoskeleton is evaluated in a controlled work simulation: move an empty crate from one waist-high bench to another one metre away. No floor lift or added load is permitted.
Walkthrough
- The team marks the one-metre route and confirms that only an empty crate may be moved.
- Trained staff fit the device, check heat, fasteners, release and skin, and explain the exclusion zone.
- The learner completes one device-off transfer, then rehearses approach, foot turn and stop without the crate.
- On the assisted trial, the learner moves the empty crate and places it fully on the second bench.
- During a staged timing mismatch without the crate, the learner stops and staff disable the device.

7 · Practice
Turn the steps into a usable skill
First session
- Back-support work-simulation block: the ergonomics team records both bench heights, the one-metre level lane, empty crate, back-support model/mode, bystander exclusion line, spotter location and emergency-release owner. Floor lifting and added mass remain prohibited.
- Bench-and-route inspection: check clearance around both waist-high surfaces, crate handles, floor traction, clothing, contact pads, fasteners, battery or spring state, heat and the unobstructed set-down path.
- Device-off comparator: using the ordinary handling plan, move the empty crate bench-to-bench once. Log foot turn, time, balance, discomfort and any assistance; this row is not a test of maximum lifting strength.
- Unloaded timing rehearsal: without touching the crate, practise approach, hip/torso support onset, foot turn, pause and release. A mistimed push triggers stand-still, emergency cue and staff disablement before any loaded trial.
- Empty-crate transfer and mismatch close: complete one approved bench-height transfer, release the crate fully, then rehearse a mistimed-assistance response without the crate. Compare whole-body comfort, heat, balance and error with a trolley or task-redesign option before discussing further use.
Repeat plan
Any later occupational or clinical evaluation repeats the bench geometry, exclusion zone, device-off comparator, unloaded timing rehearsal and emergency-release check. Only the qualified team may change work–rest schedule, support mode or load; ordinary ergonomic controls such as trolley use or task redesign stay in the comparison.
