Calculate acquisition, delayed retention and transfer from fictional error records
This is a static motor-learning evidence worksheet. It contains fictional error counts from completed research tasks; it does not ask the learner to perform a movement, practise a sequence, use a device or test pain. Immediate improvement, delayed retention and novel-task transfer must be calculated separately. A sleep interval label does not prove that sleep installed a skill, and a closely timed competing task can coincide with interference rather than accelerated learning. Faster or lower-error performance on one fixture cannot establish safe rehabilitation, sport, work or universal movement transfer. No practical task or protocol is authorised here.

Authority and safety
Governance ceiling: explanation and static fictional record analysis only. Capability self-practice, live administration, protocol delivery and efficacy claims are not authorised until the recorded next_gate adjudication changes.
Use only the four supplied fictional motor-task records. Do not trace, tap, stack, move, practise, manipulate sleep or reproduce any task/device condition.
The calculations cannot authorise rehabilitation, sport/work practice, pain exposure, a training dose or broad motor transfer.
Exact materials
The four fictional records M1–M4 in the fixture; no movement, key sequence, rehabilitation task or personal performance is requested.
Calculation sheet with three fraction lines and interpretation fields for task, device/support, schedule, delay, competing task, pain flag and transfer boundary.
Comparison card: M1 and M2 are matched except for the closely timed competing task. M1 and M3 share the practised task/device and acquisition counts, but interval label and novel-task outcome differ, so they are not an interval-only causal contrast. M4 uses another task and device.
Authority card: STATIC DATA ONLY; no drill, repetition, dose, movement cue, sleep manipulation, practice through pain, rehabilitation or progression.
Calculator, optional, and hidden answer key.
Set up in this order
Copy all baseline, immediate, 24-hour and novel-task error counts before calculating; lower error count means better performance in this fictional fixture.
Calculate acquisition, retention and novel-task percentages separately. Do not substitute the immediate value for the delayed value.
Preserve the schedule field, especially the ten-minute competing task in M2 and the ordinary overnight interval in M3.
Compare M1 with M2 only as a matched fictional contrast consistent with interference; do not claim causation or a universal spacing rule.
Use M3 only to reject the automatic-sleep-enhancement claim: retention does not exceed M1. Do not treat M1–M3 as a causal sleep comparison because interval and novel-task records differ and no random assignment is supplied.
Finish every case with one supported result and two non-claims about safety, rehabilitation or far transfer.

Award 1 point for each correct acquisition, retention and novel-task percentage across four cases (12 points), 2 points for each correct bounded case interpretation (8), 1 point for identifying M1–M2 as the matched interference contrast and 1 point for rejecting automatic sleep enhancement from M1–M3: 22 total. Passing requires at least 21, M2 retention reported as 8.3%, M3 not called sleep-enhanced and M4 not ranked directly against another device. Any real movement drill, dose, sleep manipulation, pain exposure or rehabilitation instruction receives STOP.
Worked example
For M2 acquisition, subtract immediate errors from baseline: 12 - 6 = 6; divide by 12 to obtain 0.50 or 50.0%.
For delayed retention, subtract 24-hour errors from baseline: 12 - 11 = 1; divide by 12 to obtain 0.0833 or 8.3%.
For novel transfer, subtract 12 from 12 and divide by 12: 0%.
Compare M2 with matched M1: both acquired 50.0% immediately, but M1 retained 41.7% and M2 retained 8.3%.
Preserve the schedule note that Task X began ten minutes later, then use the wording ‘consistent with interference’ rather than claiming a universal cause.
Correct result: M2 earns full credit as 50.0% acquisition, 8.3% delayed retention and 0% novel-task improvement, with a cautious matched-contrast interpretation. It supplies no motor-training schedule.
Right and wrong
Right and wrong comparison
Moment
Right / safer
Wrong / riskier
Why
Reading immediate improvement
Call 12 to 6 errors a 50.0% acquisition change on Task A.
Call it permanent motor learning.
Delayed retention must be measured separately.
Comparing M1 and M2
Describe the lower M2 retention as consistent with closely timed interference.
Derive a universal ten-minute prohibition from one fictional pair.
The contrast is narrow and does not establish a general prescription.
Interpreting M3
Note that its 41.7% retention matches the ordinary daytime M1 record.
Credit sleep with installing the sequence overnight.
The table shows no retention advantage attributable to sleep.
Interpreting M4
Report its within-case 33.3% novel-task change and different configuration.
Rank M4 as the best learner across unlike devices.
Task, device, support and baseline differ.
Using the pack
Calculate fictional records without performing a movement.
Practise a sequence or continue through pain to reproduce the table.
Guide, protocol and rehabilitation authority are not granted.
Common mistakes and fixes
Common mistakes and corrections
Mistake
Fix
Immediate errors are used in the retention numerator.
Use baseline minus 24-hour errors for delayed retention.
A lower raw error count on M4 is compared directly with M1.
Use within-case percentages and preserve the different task/device boundary.
M2 is described as proof that all closely spaced skills interfere.
Use ‘consistent with interference in this fictional matched contrast.’
M3's overnight interval is treated as an active training method.
Report the interval label and the absence of a retention advantage without giving sleep advice.
The static dataset is turned into a motor drill.
Stop; every required input is already supplied and no movement is authorized.
Evidence boundary
What the tutorial may—and may not—claim.
Supportable claim
Motor skills can improve through structured practice, while retention and interference depend on task timing and configuration.
Measurement boundary
Declare movement, accuracy, variability, speed, effort, pain, fatigue, device/support, delay and novel-task transfer; faster is not automatically safer.
Myth
Rewire any movement overnight
Metric
Accuracy, variability and safety on a declared movement after delay and on a novel task
Boundary
One motor-sequence gain does not prove universal athletic, occupational or rehabilitation transfer.
Negative and limiting findings
Controlled experiments did not support automatic sleep enhancement of motor-sequence learning.
Closely timed tasks produced interference rather than unlimited accelerated learning.
