In selected people and declared configurations, isometric strength can be measured and may improve with task-relevant practice; retention, transfer and meaningful value require separate testing.

How to observe or measure it without overclaiming

Declare joint angle, posture, lever arm, ramp instructions and dynamometer reliability; peak isometric torque says nothing by itself about dynamic speed, balance or pain.

Negative and limiting findings

  • Strength training in older adults did not change gait speed in the Symons trial.
  • Force steadiness during submaximal isometric contraction did not improve in the Tracy trial although anisometric steadiness did.

Claims this evidence cannot support

  • One test score reveals whole-person capability, health, discipline, potential or worth.

  4. PractiseOn a later provider-scheduled visit, reproduce the seat code, lever length, 60-degree geometry, ribbon width, screen smoothing and eight-second window. Practise cleaner acquisition before any target increase. The provider may alter one variable—ribbon location, ribbon width or duration—but never all three at once, so the source of change remains interpretable.
  5. Check progressPreserve the same seat code, lever arm, angle, sampling and display-smoothing settings. Score only the fixed window after ribbon entry; retain the unsmoothed trace, geometry decision and any excluded attempt. Retain the trace-shape label because acquisition, drift and pulsing can differ despite similar dwell percentages. Preserve a ribbon-dose matrix that separates width, plateau duration and feedback mode.
