Encode and retrieve consented name–role–context links while counting false identifications
Six consented conference cards provide names, roles and public tasks for a delayed recall exercise. Encode the links, retrieve without guessing, mark uncertainty and count false identifications as well as correct answers. Recalling five pairs here is useful task evidence, but it is not identity verification, face-recognition clearance or proof of everyday transfer.
What you will produceThe learner recalls names and roles from a consented fictional set after a delay, marks uncertainty, checks against the source and reports both correct recalls and false alarms.

The learner recalls names and roles from a consented fictional set after a delay, marks uncertainty, checks against the source and reports both correct recalls and false alarms.
Social memory sandbox: Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage.
Independent move — Correct from the card: Reopen the source, write the right pair and rehearse only the missed link once.
Verification move — Test a new set: After 48 hours, use four unused fictional cards and apply a recognition threshold: if unsure, ask or check rather than identify.
Qualified help is required for
Social memory escalation: Seek clinical advice if new memory change affects daily safety; this exercise is not an assessment or treatment.
Oversight boundary — Set the privacy rule: any clinical application. “Read one card at a time” needs review. “Make a distinctive safe association” marks the employment, legal or safety gate: Seek clinical advice if new memory change affects daily safety; this exercise is not an assessment or treatment.
Biometric records are excluded from “Set the privacy rule”. Confidential or covert material is excluded from “Read one card at a time”.
Never do this from the page alone
Prohibited Social memory shortcut: Store private details because they are memorable.
Do not conceal “Use a stereotype about appearance, ethnicity or disability.”; record its matching correction instead.
No consequential use: this sandbox cannot establish “Never forget another face” about another person.
2 · Get ready
Gather what you need and check the starting conditions
What you need
Declared Social memory fixture: Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage.
Setup aid for Read one card at a time: Prepare a quiet ten-minute delay task and a shuffled answer sheet.
Social memory log: Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay; retain Social memory errors, assistance, stop and fallback.
Memory-source comparison: for “Training gains and transfer effects after mnemonic strategy training in mild cognitive impairment” and “The Effects of High-Intensity Acute Exercise on Face-Name Memory in Healthy Young Adults”, record population, manipulation, name–face measure, delay and transfer limit. Use those rows to distinguish a mnemonic strategy from an acute exercise effect. The worker-monitoring guidance rules out biometric identification use.
Supplied delayed card set B: Nia—projection—yellow triangle avatar; Leo—tickets—green circle avatar; Imani—captions—purple square avatar; Rui—transport—orange star avatar; Sora—volunteers—blue hexagon avatar; Hugo—signage—red diamond avatar. Shuffle the six cards and test name, public role and task after the same ten-minute delay.
Supplied two-week card set C: Ada—permits—silver circle avatar; Ravi—seating—teal triangle avatar; Zoe—photography—gold square avatar; Malik—first aid—navy star avatar; Eva—supplies—pink hexagon avatar; Ken—recycling—brown diamond avatar. A response counts only when the name matches its role and task; uncertainty or a request to check is not a false identification.
Before you start
Confirm that every card is fictional or consented and set a deletion date.
Prepare a quiet ten-minute delay task and a shuffled answer sheet.
Start check for Social memory: Every item is permitted, minimal and has a deletion date.
Top-of-sheet stop for Social memory: Stop if the material contains private, biometric or protected information without clear permission.
3 · The method
Follow these steps in order
Set the privacy rule
Use fictional cards or information people explicitly offered for this purpose. Exclude sensitive traits and never build a covert face database.
Why: Every item is permitted, minimal and has a deletion date.
Check: Every item is permitted, minimal and has a deletion date.
Read one card at a time
Say or display the name, role and task together for five seconds.
Why: The three facts are attended to as one link.
Check: The three facts are attended to as one link.
Make a distinctive safe association
Connect the name to the public task, such as “Mei checks the mic,” using sound, image or meaning without mocking appearance.
Why: Each card has one non-sensitive association.
Check: Each card has one non-sensitive association.
Retrieve before re-reading
Turn the card over and state the name and role. Mark “unsure” rather than selecting a different person.
Why: The first retrieval is recorded before correction.
Check: The first retrieval is recorded before correction.
Correct from the card
Reopen the source, write the right pair and rehearse only the missed link once.
Why: Corrections come from the card, not another guess.
Check: Corrections come from the card, not another guess.
Insert a delay
After ten minutes of another quiet task, test all six cards in a shuffled order.
Why: Delayed responses are separate from immediate practice.
Check: Delayed responses are separate from immediate practice.
Count hits and false alarms
Score correct name–role pairs, omissions and wrong-person identifications. Do not count a confident wrong answer as partial success.
Why: All six cards are accounted for and false identifications have their own count.
Check: All six cards are accounted for and false identifications have their own count.
Test a new set
After 48 hours, use four unused fictional cards and apply a recognition threshold: if unsure, ask or check rather than identify.
Why: The new-set log includes uncertainty and no forced identification.
Check: The new-set log includes uncertainty and no forced identification.

Scenario
Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage.
Walkthrough
Review Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access and Ben–stage one card at a time.
Create neutral links: “Lina lights,” “Omar opens registration” and four equivalent task cues.
Turn each card over and attempt the pair; mark Mei “unsure” rather than calling her Lina.
After ten minutes, retrieve the shuffled set and record five correct pairs, one omission and zero false identifications.
Open the cards, correct the omitted pair once and stop.
Two days later, use four unused fictional cards and verify any uncertain answer instead of guessing.
Result
The learner recalls five of six pairs with no false identification after ten minutes in this set. That does not establish identity verification, universal face recognition or everyday transfer.

Wrong / riskier
Why it matters
Consent and minimisation
Use fictional or volunteered name–role facts.
Store private details because they are memorable.
Memory practice does not justify collecting sensitive information.
Association in conference name-role recall
Link the name to the public role or task.
Use a stereotype about appearance, ethnicity or disability.
Harmful cues distort recognition and invade dignity.
Uncertainty in conference name-role recall
Say “I’m not sure; please remind me.”
Guess a similar person’s name with high confidence.
False identification can be more harmful than an omission.
Scoring in conference name-role recall
Count wrong-person answers separately when completing the conference name-role recall.
Report only how many names were produced.
Output volume hides false alarms; this distorts the conference name-role recall.
6 · Common mistakes
Spot the error and apply the correction
Common mistakes and corrections
Mistake
Fix
Store private details because they are memorable.
Delete extras and keep only the agreed task facts.
Use a stereotype about appearance, ethnicity or disability.
Build a neutral sound, word or task association.
Guess a similar person’s name with high confidence.
Use an uncertainty threshold and verify.
Report only how many names were produced.
Score correct pairs, omissions and false identifications.
7 · Practice
Turn the steps into a usable skill
First session
Conference-card memory run: Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage.
Privacy-bounded encoding: Set the privacy rule: Use fictional cards or information people explicitly offered for this purpose. Exclude sensitive traits and never build a covert face database.
Delayed retrieval and card correction: Retrieve before re-reading, then Correct from the card.
Sensitive-detail correction: if “Store private details because they are memorable.” appears, apply “Delete extras and keep only the agreed task facts.”
Set-B recognition check: Test a new set: After 48 hours, use four unused fictional cards and apply a recognition threshold: if unsure, ask or check rather than identify.
Repeat plan
Practise one six-card set twice per week for three weeks. Use a new set after 48 hours and a two-week check without the old cards; progress by reducing omissions while keeping false identifications at zero.
Progress when
Every item is permitted, minimal and has a deletion date.
The three facts are attended to as one link.
Each card has one non-sensitive association.
Across two new sets, at least 80% of name–role pairs are correct after ten minutes, false identifications are zero, and every uncertain real interaction triggers a polite check.
Do not progress when
Do not continue while this error remains: Store private details because they are memorable.
Pause until this correction works: Build a neutral sound, word or task association.
This Social memory stop ends the block: Stop if the material contains private, biometric or protected information without clear permission.
8 · Check the result
Measure what changed
Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay
How: Baseline fixture: Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage. Enter success checks from “Set the privacy rule” and “Correct from the card”. If “Store private details because they are memorable.” occurs, apply its named fix; then score Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay on the unused “Test a new set” item.
Good result: Across two new sets, at least 80% of name–role pairs are correct after ten minutes, false identifications are zero, and every uncertain real interaction triggers a polite check.
This does not prove: Boundary for Social memory: “Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay” describes only Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage. It cannot establish “Never forget another face”.
Self-check
Without the example, demonstrate: Every item is permitted, minimal and has a deletion date.
Find the fault in this attempt: “Store private details because they are memorable.” Apply “Delete extras and keep only the agreed task facts.”; what changes?
What evidence in the completed record shows that this is wrong: “Use a stereotype about appearance, ethnicity or disability.”?
Social memory stop decision: Stop if the material contains private, biometric or protected information without clear permission.
9 · Stop, adapt or get help
Keep the safety boundary practical
Stop and get help
Stop if the material contains private, biometric or protected information without clear permission.
Do not use recall as proof of identity, trustworthiness or security clearance.
Seek clinical advice if new memory change affects daily safety; this exercise is not an assessment or treatment.
Accessibility and adaptations
Use names in audio, large print, braille, symbols or text-only profiles; the task is the link, not visual face processing.
Reduce the set to three cards and lengthen the delay gradually while keeping the false-identification rule.
10 · Evidence and limits
Why these instructions are here
primary research
Registered support for Social memory: “Training gains and transfer effects after mnemonic strategy training in mild cognitive impairment: A fMRI study”. It bears on Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay inside the Social memory fixture. It does not validate “Never forget another face”.
Constraint for Social memory, drawn from “The Effects of High-Intensity Acute Exercise on Face-Name Memory in Healthy Young Adults”: High-intensity acute exercise produced no supported face–name benefit.
ICO worker-monitoring limit — Social memory: rights and data protection apply to “Set the privacy rule”. Fixture type for “Read one card at a time”: fictional or consented. Covert use of Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay is outside scope.
Social memory boundary: interpret “Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay” only for Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage.
A successful result does not establish “Never forget another face”.
Social memory limiting finding: High-intensity acute exercise produced no supported face–name benefit.
Social memory limiting finding: Task gains did not establish broad everyday social memory or freedom from false identification.
Scope remains Social memory: Six fictional conference cards show a face illustration, first name, role and one public task: Lina–lighting, Omar–registration, Mei–audio, Tomas–catering, Asha–access, Ben–stage. Recheck the comparator, support and “Correct identification, false alarms and retained name/role recall after a declared delay” after any configuration change.
