This lesson teaches bounded resource improvisation using a tabletop continuity problem. You will define one needed function, screen out medical, structural, electrical, fire, food/water and rescue uses, compare available alternatives for fit and failure, test a harmless substitute, preserve reversibility and decide use, stop or seek qualified help.

See the whole method used once
Scenario
A fictional household needs three public-service contact numbers during a six-hour power and internet outage, with one reader who uses large print.
Walkthrough
The learner defines the function as “retrieve all three verified numbers within two minutes without power.”
They reject any utility, electrical or communication-equipment modification and compare handwritten, printed, offline-note and support-person routes.
The large-print printed card scores best for power independence and access but has a stale-copy risk; the learner adds a version date and locked storage location.
In a tabletop phone-unavailable test, the reader finds all three numbers in 45 seconds, then schedules quarterly verification.
Result
