Accelerate through a fixed 10-metre split with a repeatable start
Acceleration here means gaining sprint velocity across a measured ten metres. Gate zero, gate five and gate ten create a departure split and a transition split. A side camera verifies the launch: shoes remain on their tape marks, no preload crosses the beam, pelvis and trunk project together, and touchdown one does not reach ahead of the moving hip. Frames after gate five show whether posture rises over several contacts rather than popping upright. Each departure receives separate tags for trigger, first motion, touchdown, projection, transition rhythm and post-gate deceleration. Only a run whose tags pass may contribute split times. A tempting clock reading is discarded when a shoe creeps, the timer fires falsely, an opening stride brakes forward motion, or sprinting ends at gate ten. The timed fixture finishes at ten metres, but the athlete continues into a dedicated slowdown corridor before turning. A qualified sprint coach sets readiness, warm-up, intensity, recovery, departure count, surface and hardware. Review begins with validity tags, continues with 0–5 m and 5–10 m clocks, and ends with the total. That order shows whether change arose during launch or transition and prevents one fast number from hiding a different start geometry.

Using the same photographed launch geometry, the learner completes two coach-authorised ten-metre departures with valid beam trigger, forward projection, split continuity and post-gate slowdown, then locates any time change in 0–5 m or 5–10 m.
Acceleration: Place the front foot behind the line and the other foot about one comfortable step back. Lean forward from the ankles and hips with weight shared so neither foot has to shuffle. Hold still until the declared cue or self-start rule. Do not rock, lift a foot or cross the beam early.
During an authorised attempt, For the next two to four steps, push the ground back and down, swing the arms front to back and allow the torso to rise gradually. Keep sprinting past the second gate; do not lunge, jump or slow before it.
Photograph or mark the two-point start, record every 0–10 m split and validity decision, and confirm that the full deceleration lane remained clear.
Qualified help is required for

Gather what you need and check the starting conditions

Before you start
Walk the entire lane and remove people, objects, wet patches and loose material.
Confirm that the timing starts from the same body movement or external signal on every trial.
Tell the provider about lower-limb pain, recent sprinting absence, hamstring or tendon injury and illness or heat concerns.
Walk through the start, sprint lane and full runoff before timing anything. Put both feet on their marks and confirm the learner can hold the photographed start without a balance step.
Use progressive run-throughs to practise waiting without creeping, pushing from the marked stance and continuing into the full runoff before timing begins.
3 · The method
Follow these steps in order
Rebuild launch geometry
Align lead and rear toes with their taped coordinates, copy the photographed hip height, and set the same arm forward. Let the coach confirm camera and gate-zero alignment.
Why: Changed toe spacing or hip height creates a different launch rather than a clean retest.
Check: Reference photo and live side view show matching shoes, pelvis height and arm arrangement.
Prove a zero-momentum trigger
Settle pressure toward the lead side while both shoes stay quiet behind gate zero. Maintain one visible still frame before the agreed self-start movement fires timing.
Why: Pre-trigger rocking supplies unmeasured momentum and shortens the recorded departure artificially.
Check: A freeze-frame precedes first motion, and gate zero remains clear until that motion.
Project pelvis through gate zero
At release, push from the rear side so shin, pelvis and trunk translate forward together. Keep the chest from rising ahead of pelvic travel and omit any balance shuffle.
Why: Coordinated forward projection converts push into displacement instead of spending time rearranging posture vertically.
Check: First-motion video shows pelvic travel toward lane centre before any obvious upright lift.
Audit touchdown one
Recover the swing thigh promptly, place touchdown one near or just behind projected hip position, and coordinate the opposite arm through the launch rhythm.
Why: An outstretched opening foot applies braking exactly where early velocity should be increasing.

Complete the departure split
During contacts two and three, direct force backward into the lane, preserve broad shin-to-trunk alignment, and allow step travel to expand progressively toward gate five.

Transition after gate five

See the whole method used once
Scenario
An indoor sprint coach records three self-start departures using gates at 0, 5 and 10 m, side video at the first three contacts and a 15 m braking corridor.
Walkthrough
The stance photo records both toe marks, hip height and left arm forward; a rehearsal confirms that the first movement starts the clock.
Attempt A is 1.18 s to 5 m and 0.76 s from 5–10 m, totalling 1.94 s; video shows the chest lifting before the pelvis moves.
Attempt B is 1.14 s plus 0.75 s, totalling 1.89 s, with a unified break and three progressive drive contacts.
Attempt C displays 1.10 s plus 0.74 s, but a shoe crept across the beam during the quiet count, so the attractive 1.84 s total is rejected.
The coach selects Attempt B, links the 0.04 s first-sector gain to the cleaner departure and ends at the planned count.
The learner uses the full braking corridor each time and reports no calf, hamstring or Achilles symptom.

Result
The report keeps the valid 1.14 s and 0.75 s sector splits, giving a 1.89 s 0–10 m total from the declared stance. It does not substitute the invalid 1.84 s trace or claim top-speed ability.

7 · Practice
Turn the steps into a usable skill
First session
Photograph one two-point stance and reproduce toe marks, hip height and arm arrangement three times without running.
Practise the quiet count and unified line break at walking intensity until no heel lift or balance step appears.
Complete two coached three-contact departures, stopping well before the timing gates and reviewing contact one on side video.
After the coach's progressive warm-up and full recovery, run two or three authorised 0–10 m trials with both sector clocks active.
Classify trigger validity before viewing the total, then connect one video landmark to either 0–5 m or 5–10 m.
Finish with a controlled walk from the end of the braking corridor; do not add a personal-best attempt.
Complete one sample departure-transition profile with both sector times and all eight technical tags.
Repeat plan
At the next coach-approved exposure, reproduce stance marks and start logic before arming sector gates. Work first on whichever segment was inconsistent: quiet departures and contact one for 0–5 m, or gradual posture change for 5–10 m. Resistance, hills, extra starts and weekly frequency remain provider decisions because they change load and the task.
Progress when
Two valid starts show the same still frame, first movement and first-contact placement.
The 0–5 m sector becomes repeatable without a creep, reach or abrupt chest lift.
The 5–10 m sector improves or holds while posture unfolds across several contacts.

8 · Check the result
Measure what changed

How: Reuse photographed toe marks, the same self-start trigger, gate geometry, surface, footwear and camera view. Decide trigger and technical validity before comparing either sector. Preserve distinct departure-sector and transition-sector tag profiles beside their split times.
Good result: At least two departures have valid still starts and similar sector profiles; improvement exceeds timing noise without a reach, abrupt rise, symptom or braking failure.

Stop / get help: End the departure immediately for a pop, sudden hamstring or calf grab, Achilles pain, loss of stride or inability to enter the braking corridor normally.
