Staged checking material

Answer key

  1. A complete main-point summary says that the speaker tried a community library as a place to sketch and found a workable quieter room; it does not need every detail.
  2. Four scorable supporting details are Saturday, the busy ground floor, the upstairs room with large tables, and forty minutes spent finishing a poster outline.
  3. An acceptable tentative reflection is: ‘What I heard was that the library could work for sketching, especially upstairs, but you would want to reserve a desk first.’
  4. An acceptable clarification is: ‘Is reserving a desk the only next step you want recorded?’ The speaker may answer, correct it or decline.
  5. Mind-reading claims such as ‘you felt ignored,’ ‘you hate crowds’ or ‘you were anxious’ are unsupported because the card states none of them.
  6. The final summary is correct only after speaker verification. Feeling heard, agreeing to return or liking the listener are not scoring criteria.

Scoring rule

Score the listening product, never the person. Award 2 for an accurate main point, 1 for each of four accurate supporting details, 2 for tentative rather than mind-reading language, 1 for one neutral clarification, 2 for incorporating the speaker's correction and 1 for recording next-step status accurately: 12 points total. Interruption tally, speaker burden and consent are required pass gates rather than bonus points: any unaddressed interruption, unacceptable burden or withdrawn consent means PAUSE/STOP instead of a passing numerical result.

Authority boundary: A governed step-by-step lesson may be completed independently inside its stated limits.
