Answer key

  1. Trial A targets: line 1 positions 2, 5, 9; line 2 positions 1, 6; line 3 positions 4, 7, 9; line 4 none; line 5 positions 2, 4, 8, 10; line 6 positions 5, 10.
  2. Trial B targets: line 1 positions 1, 4, 8; line 2 positions 3, 7, 10; line 3 none; line 4 positions 2, 5, 7; line 5 positions 4, 9; line 6 positions 2, 6, 9.
  3. Each trial has 14 targets, 46 non-targets and 60 tokens. Early-half denominators are A: 8 targets/22 non-targets and B: 6/24. Late-half denominators are A: 6/24 and B: 8/22.

Scoring rule

A hit is a marked uppercase X. A miss is an unmarked X. A false alarm is a marked non-X. Calculate hit rate as hits divided by targets and false-alarm rate as false alarms divided by non-targets for the whole trial and for each half. Also record attention-slip tallies and burden. A valid trial lasts 240 seconds, visits all 60 positions once and keeps the key covered. Treat Trial B as retained task performance only when late-half hit rate is no worse, false alarms and burden do not increase, and the setup is unchanged.

Authority boundary: A governed step-by-step lesson may be completed independently inside its stated limits.
